Why am I smiling?
Tony Wood is right in the middle
of growing Gwinnett and that makes him smile. Here's what he says about
his company:
For 70 years, we have managed a broad range of site and
infrastructure improvement projects for a wide variety of public and
private sector developers and owners. A.L. Grading Contractors is a large and well
respected grading and utilities contractor in Georgia. In 1935, the
first generation of family members began grading for clients on various
projects around Atlanta. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, ALGC’s
second generation had developed a reputation for both proficiency and
diversity. The Company was selected to grade and construct site
infrastructure for much of the Peachtree Corners area, including
shopping centers, apartments, warehouses and office buildings, and build
the roads and lakes in Technology Park. ALGC’s third and fourth generations have continued
to build on this solid reputation and have extended the Company’s broad
range of experience. We work with general contractors, construction
managers, developers and public and private owners on a broad scope of
construction projects, including: Mid and high rise
buildings ALGC uses state-of-the-art
technologies to enhance its overall production and estimating
capabilities. Our project managers are able to more efficiently and
accurately control daily job costs using our bar code scanning system
for tracking trucks, equipment and employees. Our estimators can
integrate data from ALGC survey crews into CADD files to produce layouts
on our robotic total design stations. This process ensures precise
take-offs and quick turnaround on job pricing. ALGC project managers, field
superintendents, grading crews and pipe crews have a complete grasp of
all the unique skills and equipment required to tackle even the largest

We are steadily augmenting
our equipment in number, size and capacity so that we can provide our
customers with the most up-to-date construction methods. Our fleet of scrapers and
high production dozers gives us a remarkable flexibility for complex
mass and street grading assignments. Our larger backhoes allow us to
install large diameter reinforced concrete pipe. They also give us the
capacity to dig through trench rock thus reducing requirements for
blasting. Our equipment operators have extensive experience in setting
all types of drainage, sewer and water pipe, from 4" to 144", including
concrete, corrugated metal, PVC, and ductile iron. Our road tractors, low boys
and flat bed trailers give us the flexibility to rapidly and safely move
our crews from job site to job site and mobilize quickly to customer
requirements. Our preventive maintenance program supports job site
productivity and is essential to a safe operation and a secure jobsite
environment. ALGC superintendents and
crew foremen all receive extensive supervisory and job specific
education. Our equipment operators and field crew personnel are well
trained with considerable experience. Each operator completely
understands his tremendous responsibility at the job site. ALGC foremen attend monthly
safety training sessions. Tool box meetings are held weekly and safety
inspections are performed frequently, at each job site. We know that
drug free and safe job site conditions are critical to quality and cost
effective construction, and our safety record backs up our commitment. We are proud of our 70 years
