Why European Orthodontic Treatment Ninety percent of all people who need orthodontic treatment have crowded or protruding teeth. That is nine out of ten. You or your child may be in this ninety percent and ready to make an important decision about orthodontic treatment. For many years the traditional method of treating crowded and protruding teeth has included removal of premolar, or bicuspid, teeth. While this method has saved many patients from disfiguring overbites, a new and superior method of treating crowded and protruding teeth, based on careful research and analysis, has been adopted by a growing number of doctors in both Europe and North America. Instead of removing two or four bicuspids at the start of treatment and, often, four third molars (wisdom teeth) later on, doctors are now removing only two to four second molars at the beginning of treatment with no routine subsequent extractions.
