In 1900, the Tooth Fairy left an average of 12 cents under the pillow of a growing youngster. By 1983, the amount had risen to 85 cents. An assistant professor of dental hygiene at Northwestern University, Chicago, thinks the average could now be up to $ 1.00. How would you like to participate in an updated survey? Celebrating the loss of a primary tooth is a tradition that goes back before Christianity. Many cultures discovered that teeth persisted after death despite the disintegration of the rest of the body. (Forensic science anyone?) Consequently, the tooth became a symbol of immortality.
The Tooth Fairy is the only fairy indigenous to America, and this fairy usually leaves money. In most other cultures, children do not wait for money after losing a tooth, but instead wait for a better tooth! Ahhh, America, home of capitalism.
And, did you know-10% of all adults retain one or more of their baby teeth into adulthood! Take care of them because in these cases, their is usually no permanent tooth down below.
