Olmekenyu Dental Clinics 2007

2007 saw our sixth mission team for dentistry at Olmekenyu. Dr. Williams and his wife, Sheila, lead the dental core that consisted of Dr. Scott Berndt, from Greenville, S.C.,  Meagan Powers, our assistant from  Missouri, Dr. Daniel from Narok, Kenya  and many others on the trip with us.

Before we could begin the dental clinic, the dental chairs which we had used for five years had to be rehabilitated. Luckily Luke and Scott were handy with the saw.

By having an architect like Kevin Love on the team we insured ourselves of accurate drawings and plans for the new dental units.

Most of the dental team that worked with us on the second and third days in Olmekenyu.

Theresa Cloete, a future RDH, perfoms a prophy on one of the Olmekenyu school teachers as our translator assists with the suction.

Glori Love and Dr. Scott Berndt were a tremendous team in the dental mission. Scott is a graduate of the General Practice Residency program under Dr. James Curtis in Columbia, S.C.

Kara Myers and Glori Love worked the dental set up and cleanup details to perfection.

Theresa and Glori setting up the anesthetic cartridges into the syringes. The dentists would numb ten and pull ten, numb ten and pull ten...all day long. That made for a lot of work for the support staff but they always kept up and did a fantastic job.

Our infamous dental setup which has been perfected over six years to become an effective and efficient model for exodontia around the globe! Komal worked with us for the second year and was a welcomed back addition to the team.

What do many Kenyans want....removal of ectopically erupting teeth for cosmetic purposes. As we are now in our sixth year here, we see a bit less dental caries and more emphasis on the children's cosmetic issues.

Sam Cloete steadies patients head as Dr. Williams does stand-up dental extractions when the other dental chairs were in use.

The 10/40 Window is an area stretching from 10° to 40° north of the equator from West Africa to East Asia. Did you know that 90 percent of all unreached people groups live in this region of the world? The 10/40 Window is identified as having less than 2 percent of their populations as evangelical Christians.
