The questions
are on our minds a lot at Gwinnett Magazine: What does it take to
be the best in business here, and what would an "all-star" roster
look like?
We decided
to turn to the business community for answers.
Through
interviews with decision makers at companies large and small, we
learned that five attributes stood out as the criteria meriting
all-star recognition. Vision - the ability to see around the
obstacles at hand - was mentioned most often. You can tap into the
full list in the story below.
We also
obtained a list of nominees from our conversations and from
suggestions made by readers like you, who participated in the
process by visiting our Web site.
Vision. Conviction. Flexibility. Team spirit. Commitment.
All are words
that you might use to describe the essential elements of a
respected athlete who has earned all-star status. They also offer
a viable platform for unveiling a top performer in the world of
business.
As
it turns out, they only scratch the surface.
The business
arena, like any sports venue, is a competitive forum. Winning
matters, and in our survival-of-the-fittest world, you might
expect that the business people who rise to the top of their
profession must possess a certain degree of ability to be
hard-nosed - even ruthless - in their everyday dealings.
It's
therefore refreshing to report that, in fact, the opposite seems
evident with the Gwinnett Business All-Stars roster. Revealed
through candid discussions with several of the top vote getters,
there is a model for success from which we all can take a lesson.
