The Suwanee Smile Reconstruction of the Month:
April 2006

Full Neuromuscular Reconstruction Treating Tetracycline Staining

Todd Rawlins before his complete
complete reconstruction to correct occlusal wear, tetracycline staining and worn out dentistry

Todd says, "My story started when I was a child and we discovered that I was allergic to Penicillin. I ended up with terrible tetracycline staining that included a deep dark line on my teeth."

Outstanding Results:

Todd wanted the white teeth that had been unavailable to him all his life. With the severe darkness, worn enamel, worn out fillings and his need for vertical tooth height replacement, we decided that Todd would be best treated with all porcelain Hintel Zirconium crowns.

Read Todd's Testimonial

Todd  before his K-7 Neuromuscular Diagnosis and Hintel Zirconium Porcelain Makeover showing bite collapse, altered incisal edges, and severely worn lower front teeth. Unless there is a careful determination of the correct bite in severely worn tooth cases, problems can occur.

Todd had his full reconstruction completed in just a small number of visits, The initial ones for preparation and the follow-up ones for delivering his crowns. He primarily chose to do his full makeover to treat his dark teeth, but the benefit of having a corrected bite will serve him tremendously in the coming years.

The restoration of the lost vertical height is obvious. Because Todd was diagnosed with the K-7 Neuromuscular system, we have confidence that the new bite will be comfortable, durable and stable.

Worn teeth in a bruxer and grinder can lead to continuous shortening of natural enamel. Todd needed the posterior support in the back of his mouth to take the excess forces off of the lower front teeth. This is especially common in men.

The wear of the teeth is cumulative and progressive. As the protective guidance is lost, the forces placed on the teeth increase and the muscles of the head and neck can begin to get into spasm, leading to headaches and facial pain.

To avoid further tooth enamel loss and potential TMJ injury, Todd had his bite restored to the proper vertical height and had the proper cuspid protected occlusion built into his new teeth.

Without  the proper canine tooth shapes due to bruxing and grinding, patients often put excess pressure on their back teeth as they slide side do side and front to back. This weakens the other teeth, causing them to move apart, sometimes leaving spaces between them.

When the canine and anterior guidance of the bite is properly crafted in our laboratory, the patient will experience less pain, less muscle spasm and more longevity of the porcelain reconstructions.

Top teeth before treatment: notice the loss of enamel on the incisal edges of all of the front teeth.

Top teeth after beautiful Hintel Zirconium crowns

Lower teeth before treatment: Todd was interested in getting rid of the silver mercury fillings and the gold crowns from years past.

Lower teeth: strong, straight and beautiful. Hintel Zirconium crowns are as strong as porcelain fused to metal crowns. The zirconium core is milled from pure solid zirconium by a cad cam micro milling machine

Todd says, "For the first time in 38 years I no longer feel like people are better than me. My confidence is high and I smile about everything."

Great Smile - Great Bite

"Results like this don't come by guessing, they come with scientific measurements and a thorough understanding of the K-7 instrumentation's strengths and weaknesses."
